Holy Family Parish is so blessed with wonderful people. Everywhere you look, you see a friendly face, and despite the devastation COVID has brought to many other churches, it seems Holy Family has shrugged all of this aside, and though there have been severe consequences to many, “we will not be shaken.” I’ve been here a little over six months now, and most of us have seemingly survived the Christmas overload: and since we are now well into the new year of 2022, I believe it’s time for some serious RECRUITMENT to the Music Ministry at our church. This first attempt is geared primarily toward building up the ADULT CHOIR, but there are several other options as well. I get the feeling there are many in our church family that are not even aware that we have an adult choir, especially if you rarely come to the 11:00 Mass on Sunday mornings. Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve was just glorious, and that was just a taste of what is to come. Perhaps the Adult Choir is not for you, for whatever reason. Well, here are some options: I plan to start a CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE (provided there is enough interest!) and you might consider participating in that area of ministry. Maybe mom and dad are not singers, where in some cases - perhaps all of us should be thankful; but you’ve started growing your young family and you might have little ones that could be singing in our CHILDREN’s CHOIR. Everyone, young and old, loves to hear children singing in church!!!! Come on folks, all of this is VERY do-able, but I need to know where the talent might be hiding. As for rehearsals, those details can be worked out once I see how much interest there is. In the mean time, our ADULT CHOIR rehearses on WEDNESDAY evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Please let me know who you are, and the best way of doing that is to see me after one of the weekend masses. This new year of 2022 affords all of us the opportunity to “GET INVOLVED” once again in our local churches, and I am very optimistic that I will hear from many of you very soon!!!! Wednesday’s at 7:00 pm Eastern starting January 5th for 8 weeks via Zoom. This 8-part series from WildGoose.TV will include videos followed by discussion. Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR and Dr. John Bergsma present an enlightening discussion of the book written by Dr. Bergsma, “Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls.” In this enriching and exciting exploration, Dr. Bergsma demonstrates how the Dead Sea Scrolls—the world's greatest modern archaeological discovery—can shed light on the Church as a sacred society that offered hope, redemption, and salvation to its members. Ultimately, these mysterious writings are a time machine that can transport us back to the ancient world, deepen our appreciation of Scripture, and strengthen our understanding of the Christian faith. The Catholic Church is journeying together to grow in communion, participation and mission as we look towards the future. This process, called for by Pope Francis, is known as the Synod on Synodality. Synod is an ancient word in the Tradition of the Church, whose meaning draws on the deepest themes of Revelation. It indicates the path along which the People of God walk together. To learn more visit www.JourneyingTogether.org.
